Give the United Nations an
Island |
LETTER IN THE NEW YORK
TIMES 9/9/2000
New York may be the "perfect home" for the United Nations, but
not as its current location. I recommend relocating it,
along with related facilities like foreign missions and hotels,
to Governors Island.
The United Nations would no longer cause traffic jams, as it
could be reached by helicopters from all three area airports,
ferries, and a bridge built for cars and trains. Security
would be easier, too. And United Nations Island would
offer the international organization appropriate and inspiring
views of Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty, and New York City.
